“Ghana Stumbles in World Cup Qualifiers with Shocking Defeat to Comoros”

In a surprising turn of events, Ghana faced a disheartening loss at the hands of Comoros in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday. The Southern African side secured a memorable victory on Ghana’s home turf, propelled by a brilliant first-half strike from Myziane Maolida.

Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, made strategic changes to the lineup compared to the opening World Cup qualifying game against Madagascar last Friday. Despite the alterations, the Black Stars struggled to find their rhythm against a resilient Comoros team.

The match saw the absence of key players, including the injured Mohammed Kudus, who was left on the bench due to a back injury. Hughton opted to maintain Richard Ofori in the post and retained confidence in other key players like Jordan Ayew and Inaki Williams.

Despite early opportunities, including a one-on-one chance for striker Antoine Semenyo, Ghana failed to capitalize on their chances. The defensive lapses proved costly, and Maolida took advantage, scoring against the run of play just three minutes before halftime.

The second half witnessed Hughton making strategic substitutions, bringing on Kudus, Ernest Nuamah, and Majeed Ashimeru, but Ghana struggled to break through Comoros’ defense. Nuamah, in particular, had a goal disallowed, contributing to the frustration for the Black Stars.

Comoros, having secured a famous victory, now sits atop Group I of the Africa World Cup qualifiers with six points. In contrast, Ghana finds itself in a challenging position, dropping to fourth place after Tuesday’s disappointing defeat. The loss adds to the recent setbacks for the Black Stars, following Comoros’ earlier triumph in the last AFCON.

As the World Cup qualifying journey continues, Ghana faces the task of regrouping and strategizing to bounce back from this unexpected setback and reclaim its standing in the highly competitive Group I.
