The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Asutifi South finds himself at the center of controversy. Honorable Collins Dauda’s recent arrest, amidst allegations of involvement in a tumultuous altercation, has ignited a firestorm of debate and condemnation.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Dauda was promptly granted bail following his arrest. In a candid interview with Accra-based Citi FM, Gyamfi vehemently refuted all allegations leveled against the lawmaker. “He [Collins Dauda] was immediately granted bail. And so he is currently on bail,” Gyamfi clarified, adding that Dauda was not even present at the scene of the incident. “At no point was the Honorable Collins Dauda present at the scene,” Gyamfi asserted, casting doubt on the validity of the accusations.
Gyamfi went on to condemn the arrest, urging the police to redirect their focus towards apprehending the true instigators of the disturbance. “So we condemn what the police did and we are calling on them to focus on arresting the real perpetrators of that chaos, of those criminal actions,” Gyamfi passionately declared. He pointed fingers at alleged NPP affiliates, urging authorities to hold them accountable for the reported violence. “The NPP hoodlums and bandits were led by a known NPP bandit called Anointing,” Gyamfi claimed, urging the police to prioritize the apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the unrest.
The police, however, maintain their stance, asserting that Dauda’s arrest stems from his purported involvement in the fracas that unfolded at a registration center on May 11, 2024. They cite injuries sustained by a citizen during the altercation, with efforts underway to bring other suspects associated with the incident to justice.
