The Nollywood community is in mourning following the passing of veteran actress Stella Ikwuegbu, who succumbed to leg cancer on Sunday, June 16. The sad news was shared by film producer Stanley Nwoko, also known as Stanley Ontop, on his Instagram page.
“Nollywood actress and veteran Mrs. Stella Ikwuegbu is dead. The veteran actress left this world today after battling with leg cancer. Rest well, Madam Stella. Nollywood again. It’s well,” Nwoko wrote.
Stella Ikwuegbu’s death marks a profound loss for the Nigerian entertainment industry, where she had made a lasting impact with her exceptional talent and numerous contributions over the years. Her career, spanning several decades, saw her delivering remarkable performances in a plethora of movies and television series. Renowned for her versatility and ability to embody diverse roles with finesse, Ikwuegbu won the hearts of audiences and earned the respect of her peers.
Her passing comes shortly after the loss of another beloved Nollywood figure, veteran Yoruba actor Dayo Adewunmi, known as Sule Suebebe, who died at the age of 68.
The Nigerian film industry has been significantly affected by these consecutive losses, feeling the absence of two of its cherished icons. Stella Ikwuegbu’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through the memorable characters she portrayed and the indelible mark she left on Nollywood.
