Former Ghanaian captain Asamoah Gyan has voiced his belief that Mohammed Kudus stands out as the top Ghanaian player currently and advocates for the national team, the Black Stars, to be centered around the talented West Ham midfielder.
Gyan’s endorsement of Kudus comes amidst the midfielder’s remarkable performances in Europe over the past few years, particularly since his transition from the Right to Dream Academy to West Ham United. The 23-year-old has made a significant impact in his debut season in the Premier League, showcasing his prowess with 12 goals and five assists across all competitions for the Hammers.
Notably, Kudus has also been instrumental for the Ghanaian national team, demonstrating his exceptional talent in recent major tournaments. Despite Ghana’s group-stage exit in both the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Kudus emerged as a standout performer, netting crucial goals for the team.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, expressed his conviction that Kudus represents a new era for the Black Stars, comparable to previous eras led by iconic players like Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, and Sulley Muntari.
“In the past, we’ve had legendary players like Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, and Sulley Muntari, following my era. Now, it’s evident that it’s Kudus’ era,” Gyan remarked in an interview with Asempa FM.
Kudus boasts an impressive record with the Black Stars, having scored 11 goals in 32 appearances for the national team.
