A widely circulated video captures Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II openly chastising a subordinate chief for his involvement in a double land sale. The video depicts the Asantehene, surrounded by his subjects and aides, confronting the chief and his accuser in his courtyard.
Addressing the sub chief directly, the Asantehene queries, “Now that the issue is being discussed, what exactly are you implying? Do you believe you possess superior wisdom compared to others? Isn’t there someone already occupying the land?” He sternly warns the sub chief, stating, “If you behave improperly, I will promptly remove you from your position.”
Reportedly, the matter in question was initially brought before Manhyia in 2014. However, due to the chief’s refusal to adhere to the Palace’s arbitration decision, the victim of the double land sale resorted to legal action. When summoned by the courts, the chief contested that the matter had never undergone arbitration at Manhyia.
The precise date of the Asantehene’s interrogation in the video remains uncertain. Ibrahim Sannie Daara, former spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), shared the video on platform X, with the intention of using it as a cautionary example for other traditional leaders.
