In a major drug bust, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) of Ghana, in partnership with the UK National Crime Agency, intercepted a substantial shipment of cocaine at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday, June 10, 2024. The operation led to the seizure of 166.88 kg of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of $6,480,000.

The illicit substances were discovered in the luggage of two British nationals, Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, who were preparing to board a British Airways flight to Gatwick. Each individual had checked in three bags, all of which contained a total of 72 slabs of the suspected cocaine, amounting to 83.44 kg per person along with their personal belongings.

Upon discovery, both suspects were immediately arrested and are currently assisting authorities with the investigation. NACOC emphasized its unwavering vigilance and commitment to ensuring the safety of travelers and maintaining security at flight terminals.

The British passengers, Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, were scheduled to board a British Airways flight to Gatwick. The suspects had checked in three bags each, all found to contain 72 slabs of the suspected cocaine. The luggage of both individuals contained a total of 83.44 kg of suspected cocaine, along with their personal items. The two individuals have been arrested and are assisting with investigations.

This operation underscores NACOC’s alertness and commitment to ensuring the safety of travelers and its preparedness to address threats related to drug possession at flight terminals, regardless of nationality.

The successful operation highlights NACOC’s proactive measures in combating drug trafficking and ensuring the integrity of Ghana’s borders. The collaboration with international agencies like the UK National Crime Agency showcases a concerted global effort to tackle the pervasive issue of drug smuggling.

The arrest of the two British nationals and the substantial drug seizure are significant milestones in the fight against narcotics trafficking, sending a strong message about the zero-tolerance stance of both local and international law enforcement agencies.
