WhatsApp announced in April that it was working on a new ‘Communities’ feature. This feature would allow separate groups to come together under one umbrella to form a community.
As of 25th August 2022, WhatsApp rolled out this feature for beta users. This feature will soon be rolled out in various countries gradually.
What is the WhatsApp community feature?
The community feature on WhatsApp will provide users with the ability to organize and bring related groups together under one umbrella.
Community admins will be able to reach members with important updates by sending announcements, and community members can stay connected by exploring and chatting in groups that matter to them.
Community groups will also give admins more power as they will be able to delete messages they think are “irrelevant or troublesome”.
In addition to being able to interact with all members of a given Community, members can also break off into smaller discussion groups. This is helpful when members want to have more focused discussions on specific topics with other like-minded individuals.
WhatsApp also confirmed in April that end-to-end encryption will be extended to the community feature.
