In a bid to allay concerns over recent power outages, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has offered reassurance to Ghanaians, affirming that the government is swiftly addressing the issue and that the challenges, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor’, will soon be a thing of the past
Addressing a gathering of clergy and imams in Akropong during his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia conveyed the government’s commitment to resolving the power crisis. He underscored his confidence in the ongoing efforts to tackle the issue, expressing optimism that significant improvements are on the horizon.
“I know there are challenges and I don’t want to paper over economic challenges. We are going to work on them. Currently, we have issues with power but I say that from the information I have received from the minister for energy, those power challenges will very soon, and I mean very soon be a thing of the past,” affirmed the vice president.
In addition to addressing the pressing issue of power outages, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision for the future of natural resource management in Ghana. He pledged to refocus the paradigm, ensuring that Ghanaians have complete ownership of their natural resources.
“I am going to refocus our paradigm for natural resource management. For the most part, Ghana has not maximized the benefits of our natural resources,” stated Dr. Bawumia. “Since the days of the Portuguese in the 15th century, gold has always been taken out of Ghana. We haven’t benefited much from our natural resources; I am going to change that paradigm.”
Highlighting plans to empower local institutions for resource exploration and exploitation, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of Ghanaians owning their natural wealth. He pledged to implement policies that ensure one hundred percent ownership of resources by Ghanaians, thereby maximizing the benefits derived from Ghana’s abundant natural endowments.
As Dr. Bawumia embarks on his campaign promises, his assurance regarding the imminent resolution of power challenges and his commitment to reshaping resource ownership reflect the government’s determination to address critical issues affecting the nation’s development trajectory.
With the promise of brighter days ahead in terms of both energy reliability and resource management, Ghanaians eagerly await the realization of these pledges as the country charts its course towards prosperity under the leadership of Vice President Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party government.
