The Electoral Commission has urged the National Identification Authority to speed up the process of printing Ghana cards so that people who want to vote can register.
The EC yesterday announced that Ghanaian citizens will no longer need a guarantor to register to vote, and that the Ghana card will be the only accepted form of identification.
This will take effect when the yet-to-be-laid constitutional instrument matures.
The EC has stated that they believe the current guarantor system for voter registration is full of potential challenges and is no longer providing a secure system for the country.
The Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, says that this goal is achievable with the help and cooperation of all relevant parties.
