Widow of Former Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah Denounces Food Poisoning Allegations, Calls for Accountability
In a stirring rebuttal to swirling rumors, Apostle Lilian Kumah, widow of the late John Kumah, former Deputy Finance Minister, has vehemently denied claims suggesting her husband’s demise was due to food poisoning.
Addressing the speculation in an exclusive interview with Accra-based Asaase radio, Apostle Lilian Kumah clarified that her husband had valiantly battled a severe illness for over a year. Contrary to circulating reports, she revealed that doctors in Germany had diagnosed a terminal disease nearly a year ago, which tragically led to his passing on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
As the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, Apostle Lilian Kumah appealed to those perpetuating rumors about her husband’s death to desist, highlighting the additional anguish it causes her family.
In a poignant plea, she called for swift police intervention against individuals like Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, who publicly alleged her husband was poisoned without substantiation. Expressing her dismay, Apostle Lilian Kumah questioned Captain Smart’s audacity in making such claims about John Kumah, a dedicated servant of both his country and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Emphasizing the importance of upholding the law, she urged authorities to hold Captain Smart accountable and demand evidence for his unfounded allegations. In an official complaint lodged with the Ghana Police Service, she implored authorities to ensure the Onua TV presenter substantiates his claims surrounding her husband’s death.
“Why is it that someone has been this bold to claim that he knows for a fact that a person like John Kumah who has served his country virtually all his life, was poisoned, while he was working for his country and party (NPP), why should we sit down and not bring that person to book,” she lamented.
The passing of John Kumah, Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, marked a profound loss for Ghana. Revered as a man of integrity and a champion of job creation, Kumah’s legacy lives on through his commitment to serving his constituents and instilling hope for a brighter future.
He is survived by his wife, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and six children, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his nation and community.
