Mohammed Kudus has affirmed that the Black Stars share the same fervent desire as all Ghanaians to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Ghana significantly boosted their qualification chances with a crucial 2-1 victory over Mali in Bamako last Thursday. Second-half goals from Ernest Nuamah secured the win for Otto Addo’s side, bringing them level with Madagascar and Comoros at the top of Group I with six points each.
The Black Stars will have an opportunity to extend their lead when they host the Central African Republic (CAR) in Kumasi on Monday.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Kudus emphasized that the team’s ultimate goal is World Cup qualification. “The belief has always been there; we all want to go to the World Cup. That is our ultimate goal. It doesn’t matter how we get it. Our coach has his tactics, but sometimes the game gets tougher, and we just have to do our best and get the results,” said the West Ham United star.
Kudus highlighted his consistent determination to win in every match, whether playing in Ghana or Europe. “Personally, in every game, my motive is the same—to win. We are all a team, whether I score or anyone else does; it’s a team effort. We started playing from Ghana before leaving, so there is no excuse. I just do my best to help the team win.”
Kudus is expected to start when the Black Stars face CAR at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Despite a lackluster performance against Mali last week, he was on the score sheet the last time Ghana played CAR in an AFCON qualifier in 2023.
