In a shocking incident that has rattled the community of Kuwait in the Ga South Municipality of Greater Accra, a 47-year-old man known as Efo Emma was apprehended for allegedly defiling a three-year-old child.

The immediate response from vigilant local residents led to his arrest after he was caught in the act, underlining the community’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare of children.

The concerned residents wasted no time in detaining the suspect and delivering him to the Tuba Police Station following the distressing event. Ghana Crimes, a notable crime news outlet in Ghana, reported the incident, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

The accused, Jerome Enyam (19) from Fijai, Ebenezer Adam (19) from Kojokrom, both KNUST second-year students, and Alhaji Awudu Adams (18) from Fijai, Sekondi-Takoradi, are facing charges of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, specifically Sexual Extortion, as per the Criminal Offences Act. They also stand accused under the Cyber Security Act.

Reports revealed that Jerome Enyam and Ebenezer Adam, studying Business Administration and Petrochemical Engineering respectively, purportedly conspired to extort money from their victim. The victim, a former KNUST student aged 20 and son of a senior official in a prominent road construction firm in the Western Region, had a private video leaked without his consent.

Detailing the case in court, Inspector Kaylin Yawson explained how the accused used the aforementioned video to blackmail the victim, demanding GH¢1,800 to prevent its circulation on social media. Subsequently, an anonymous text demanding GH¢2,500 was allegedly sent by the trio on 7 November 2023.

At the court hearing on 27 May 2024, Inspector Yawson shed light on the evidence, including a mobile phone containing the incriminating video found in the possession of the accused. Despite pleading not guilty, the three suspects were denied bail by Her Ladyship Harriet Charway of the Takoradi Circuit Court, with the case adjourned to 17 June 2024, as they remain in police custody.

These shocking incidents underscore the imperative of community vigilance and legal processes in safeguarding the vulnerable and ensuring justice prevails.
