In a case that has gripped the nation with its tragic and senseless violence, Abdullah Mohammed, a 20-year-old man accused of robbing and murdering 74-year-old stroke patient Alice Kakari, has been handed a 50-year prison sentence for the robbery. This verdict was delivered by the Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court under the authority of His Lordship Oheneba Kuffour.
However, while Mohammed has been sentenced for the robbery, the trial for the murder charge is still ongoing. He remains in custody, awaiting further proceedings. The prosecution alleges that Mohammed not only robbed but also killed Alice Kakari after she attempted to call for help during the horrifying ordeal.
According to the prosecution’s account, Mohammed tied the elderly woman with a rope, slashed her neck, and looted her three-bedroom house, making off with valuables and an undisclosed sum of money. The incident, which occurred near the Ballon Hotel at Awutu Senya East in the Central region, has left a community in shock and mourning.
Key evidence from a CCTV camera installed in Alice Kakari’s home played a crucial role in identifying the suspect and ultimately leading to his arrest.

While acknowledging some relief in the sentencing, she also lamented the profound loss of her mother and stressed the importance of ensuring justice is served in the murder case as well.
“In fact, 50 years is enough because he has really caused us so much pain. We are also waiting for the murder case as well. He needs to be punished very well,” she remarked to Adom News.
