Alan Kyeremanten Asserts Fearlessness in 2024 Election, Questions NPP’s Unity
Alan Kyeremanten, an independent candidate vying for the 2024 general elections, has confidently expressed that he is unafraid of the contenders from the two major political parties in Ghana. The former Minister for Trade and Industry is determined to emerge as the victor in the upcoming polls, facing off against John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
While congratulating Vice President Bawumia on his nomination as the NPP’s flagbearer, Kyeremanten stated that this outcome was widely anticipated. He pointed out that the electoral process seemed to have been strategically and tactically aligned in favor of a specific candidate, as evidenced by the primary results.
“Whilst using this opportunity to congratulate His Excellency the Vice President on taking over the mantle of leadership in the NPP, his selection as flag bearer is not a surprise to any serious political watcher. It was the widely anticipated outcome of the elections. I had been saying all along that the electoral process had been strategically and tactically skewed in favor of a particular candidate. That is what we saw on Saturday,” Mr Kyerematen said in an interview with the Daily Ghanaian Guide.
Kyerematen also raised questions about the margin of victory, noting that the Vice President’s 60% vote share, although substantial, may suggest that he does not have complete control over the ruling NPP. He stated, “Judging from the widely publicized expected margin of not less than 80% in favor of the Vice President, I am inclined to think that the 60% vote for him provides a clear indication that the Vice President does not have total control of his own Party. The election results must also be analyzed against the background that the Vice President has been campaigning for the Flagbearership since 2020 and has been the beneficiary of both State and Party-sponsored support.”
Addressing the familiar refrain of “Break the Eight” within the NPP, Kyerematen expressed his belief that this narrative does not resonate with the everyday concerns of the majority of Ghanaians who grapple with economic challenges and unemployment. He opined that the NDC did not provide a credible alternative either.
As the 2024 elections draw near, Alan Kyeremanten stands as a formidable independent candidate, unafraid of the challenges posed by the NDC and NPP, while emphasizing the importance of unity and addressing the real issues facing the nation.
