Laryea Kingston Eyes Black Stars Coaching Role: Ready to Lead Ghana’s Revival
In the aftermath of Ghana’s disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign, former international player Laryea Kingston has thrown his hat into the ring, expressing his readiness to take on the mantle of coaching the Black Stars.
Ghana’s failure to progress beyond the group stage, falling short behind Cape Verde and Egypt in Group B, marked a bitter end to their tournament aspirations under the helm of Chris Hughton. With no wins to show, the team’s lackluster performance prompted swift action, resulting in the dismissal of Hughton and the entire technical staff.
Amidst the vacuum left by the coaching shake-up, Laryea Kingston, a veteran of over 40 matches for the Black Stars, has emerged as a vocal contender for the coveted coaching role. Speaking candidly on the matter, Kingston emphasized the importance of appointing a coach who resonates with the local ethos and possesses the necessary competence. He advocated for a collaborative approach, suggesting the pairing of a local coach with an experienced expatriate to ensure a seamless transition.
“I will accept and do it easy. I know the level at which I am now,” asserted the 43-year-old, underscoring his confidence in his ability to steer the national team towards success.
Currently serving as the assistant coach for Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, Kingston’s journey into coaching began following his retirement from professional football. Armed with a UEFA B coaching license acquired in February 2022, he has honed his skills as a mentor, previously contributing his expertise at the Right to Dream Academy before assuming his current role with the U17s.
With a wealth of experience garnered from his illustrious playing career and subsequent coaching endeavors, Kingston embodies a promising candidate to lead the Black Stars into a new era of resurgence.
