John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his recent call urging Ghanaians not to vote for him in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Dismissing Akufo-Addo’s warning that his presidency would dismantle the incumbent government’s purported achievements, Mahama branded such assertions as laughable. Instead, he launched a scathing critique of the current administration, denouncing it as riddled with corruption and mismanagement of Ghana’s precious resources.
In a pointed rebuttal posted on his X platform, Mahama minced no words, declaring, “Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket.”
Akufo-Addo, in turn, had urged Ghanaians to reject Mahama at the polls, citing a lack of confidence in the former president’s ability to propel the nation’s development agenda. Addressing fervent supporters at a mini rally in Doboro, Greater Accra region, following a visit to Blue Skies Limited, Akufo-Addo reiterated his endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the preferred successor.
“The registration has started, I urge all persons yet to register to do so, your vote is your power,” Akufo-Addo underscored, emphasizing the significance of civic participation in the ongoing Limited Voter registration exercise.
Emphasizing his stance, Akufo-Addo reiterated, “I can’t hand over to someone I defeated twice and is not happy with everything I do, he will destroy the work that I have done. Vote for Dr. Bawumia, I have worked with him for the past seven and a half years, I have confidence in him, I know he can continue the good work.”
As political tensions mount and the electoral arena intensifies, both candidates have set their sights on rallying supporters and courting the undecided electorate. With accusations flying and promises abound, Ghana braces itself for a heated battle of ideas and visions for the nation’s future.
