Former President John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched scathing criticism against the government led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labeling it as the “biggest political scam” in Ghana’s history.
Mahama’s remarks came during his “Building the Ghana We Want” tour in Nalerigu, North East Region, on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. He urged Ghanaians to carefully consider their choices in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections, questioning whether voters would support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after enduring more than seven years of significant hardship under the current administration.
Addressing the crowd, Mahama remarked, “The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration is the biggest political scam in the history of the 4th republic.” He expressed surprise that anyone would still consider voting for the NPP after experiencing widespread challenges during their tenure.
“Maybe those who have made money under this government, yes, they will go and vote again. But I know that the majority of Ghanaians have seen a reversal in the quality of their lives in these seven and a half years,” Mahama added, highlighting the adverse impact of the administration’s policies on the lives of ordinary citizens.
Mahama’s comments underscored growing dissatisfaction with the current government’s performance, particularly regarding economic hardship, unemployment, and social inequalities. He called on voters to exercise their mandate wisely and make a choice that reflects their desire for positive change and improvement in their living conditions.
The former President’s criticism comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the December elections, with both major parties vying for support and seeking to sway public opinion in their favor. Mahama’s strong words reflect the NDC’s determination to challenge the incumbent government and present itself as a viable alternative to address the country’s pressing issues.
