Former President John Mahama has voiced his disappointment at the loss of $190 million intended for private sector involvement in electricity distribution under the US Millennium Compact.
Taking to Facebook, Mahama attributed this loss to what he described as corrupt and cronyistic governance practices of the current administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
As he gears up for the 2024 elections, Mahama assured Ghanaians of his commitment to accountability and enhancing private sector efficiency in the electricity distribution system if elected. He also pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the PDS scandal to hold those involved accountable.
The cancellation of the $190 million power compact under the Millennium Challenge Corporation for Ghana follows the PDS scandal, which saw no action taken against the individuals implicated.
Mahama passionately called on all Ghanaians to unite against pervasive issues of corruption and cronyism. He envisions a brighter future for Ghana’s power sector, one that can only be realized through collective efforts.
As the nation heads towards future elections, Mahama’s stance underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in governance, signaling his commitment to addressing critical issues facing the country’s development.
