Ghana’s youthful football talents dazzled on the pitch as the Black Starlets secured a commanding victory over neighboring rivals Ivory Coast in the opening match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship. The resounding 5-1 triumph at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, showcased the team’s skill, determination, and promising potential on the international stage.

Led by Head Coach Laryea Kingston, the Black Starlets delivered a masterclass performance, dominating proceedings from the outset and leaving their opponents trailing in their wake. A standout display from striker Jacob Narbi, who netted a brace in the first half, set the tone for Ghana’s impressive showing.

The team’s attacking prowess was on full display as goals from Godfred Srapong, Harve Gbafa, and Mark Mensah sealed the comprehensive victory, punctuated only by a consolation goal from Ivory Coast. Speaking after the match, Coach Laryea Kingston expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance and urged Ghanaians to revel in the momentous victory. Despite acknowledging the challenge posed by Ivory Coast, Kingston emphasized the importance of enjoying the triumph and rallying behind the Black Starlets as they continue their campaign.

“It’s a joy. We have to enjoy. It wasn’t an easy game. The Ivorians are not an easy side,” Kingston remarked, reflecting on the hard-fought encounter. “Now Ghanaians have to have fun because it’s a good win against a good side.”
