Professor Joshua Alabi, campaign manager for NDC flagbearer John Mahama, has asserted that the shortcomings of the Akufo-Addo administration diminish the electoral threat posed by NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to Citi News after his reappointment as the NDC’s 2024 campaign manager, Alabi criticized Dr. Bawumia’s economic policies, claiming they have failed to deliver tangible benefits and earn voter trust.
Alabi pointed to several unfulfilled promises, such as “one village, one dam” and “one constituency, one million dollars,” as evidence of the administration’s failure. “These are practical things. You don’t even see anything moving on,” he remarked, highlighting the growing dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with Dr. Bawumia’s economic theories.
In contrast, Alabi praised John Mahama’s record, particularly his significant infrastructural developments during his presidency. He expressed confidence in Mahama’s potential to reclaim the presidency, stating, “We all know the performance of John Dramani Mahama when he was in office, the massive infrastructural development he did. I am very confident that we will get our flag bearer to the seat of government.”
Meanwhile, a new survey by the National Investigations Bureau reveals that NPP members prefer Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate. The survey, which engaged 5,116 NPP delegates nationwide, showed that Dr. Opoku Prempeh secured 76.2% of the responses from executives polled. Trailing him was Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education and MP for Bosomtwe, with 10.16%.
Other notable personalities considered for the running mate role include Apostle Opoku Onyinah, former Chairman of the Pentecost Church-Ghana, and Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture and MP for Abetifi Constituency.
