Heavyweight boxer Francis Ngannou has been struck by tragedy as he announced the heartbreaking death of his 15-month-old son, Kobe. In a poignant post on X on Monday, the Cameroonian fighter confirmed the tragic incident with a touching tribute to his beloved son.
“My little boy, my mate, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy. Now, he’s laying without life. I shouted his name over and over but he’s not responding,” Ngannou wrote, expressing his profound grief and disbelief at the loss. “I was my best self next to him and now I have no clue of who I am. Life is so unfair to hit us where it hurts the most.”
In another heartfelt post, Ngannou mourned his son, grappling with the profound questions of loss and the unfairness of life. “What’s the purpose of life if what we’re fighting tooth and nail to get away from is what finally hit us the hardest!? Why is life so unfair and merciless? Why does life always take what we don’t have? I’m f*****g tired,” he expressed, reflecting on the anguish of losing his beloved child.
Tributes poured in from Ngannou’s colleagues in the sports world, with Anthony Joshua and Conor McGregor offering their condolences. Joshua, who defeated Ngannou earlier this year, shared, “May the memories you shared bring you comfort,” while McGregor expressed, “I am so sorry to hear of your loss Francis, my prayers are with you and your family at this time.”
Ngannou, known for his prowess in the UFC where he became a world champion, transitioned to professional boxing after making a name for himself in mixed martial arts. Last year, he faced Tyson Fury and narrowly lost before challenging Joshua, who knocked him out after just two rounds in Saudi Arabia.
As Ngannou and his family grapple with the devastating loss of Kobe, the cause of the 15-month-old’s death remains unknown, leaving the fighter and his loved ones in mourning as they seek solace and support during this difficult time.
