ECG Dispels Dumsor Fears: No Need for Load-Shedding Timetable Despite Power Interruptions
Amidst recent concerns over power interruptions, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has come forward to reassure the public that there is no imminent need for a return to load-shedding schedules, commonly known as dumsor.
In an exclusive interview held in Accra, Laila Abubakar, the External Communications Manager at ECG, addressed the growing apprehension, highlighting that the current challenges with power supply do not warrant the implementation of a formal load-shedding timetable.
Abubakar emphasized that while power cuts have been experienced, they are not necessarily indicative of systematic load shedding. She stressed that various factors contribute to these interruptions, some of which fall under the purview of the ECG. However, the company is actively working to address these issues to minimize disruptions.
Clarifying the term “dumsor,” Abubakar noted its colloquial use to describe load shedding but emphasized that there is no structured timetable akin to the dumsor era.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of ECG, acknowledged the challenges posed by frequent power disruptions. He attributed these issues to maintenance concerns, citing the inherent susceptibility of machinery to malfunctions.
As ECG continues its efforts to mitigate power interruptions, the assurance provided by Abubakar offers a glimmer of hope to Ghanaians, alleviating fears of a return to the dark days of load shedding.
