In a landmark declaration, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has heralded Ghana’s digital transformation as a game-changer, revealing staggering savings and advancements achieved through digitization initiatives.
Addressing attendees at the launch of LEADing Justice, a strategic framework document outlining the Chief Justice’s vision for Ghana’s Judiciary and Judicial Service, Dr. Bawumia underscored the monumental impact of digitization on the country’s financial landscape. Notably, he credited digitization for the elimination of ghost pensioners and workers, resulting in jaw-dropping savings of GHC480 million and GHC356 million, respectively.
Expressing his admiration for the Chief Justice’s prioritization of digitization, Dr. Bawumia commended Ghana’s rapid progress in this realm. He emphasized the indispensable role of digitization in propelling the judiciary forward, stressing its pivotal importance for advancement.
Drawing attention to digitization’s ripple effects across various sectors, the Vice President highlighted its transformative influence on the tax system. He cited a remarkable increase in the number of individuals with Tax Identification Numbers, soaring from a mere four percent to an impressive 85 percent following the introduction of the Ghana Card. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia lauded the eradication of ghost workers within the Controller and Accountant General Office, facilitated by the adoption of the Ghana Card.
Underpinning the pillars of law, ethics, asset management, due process, and digitization as cornerstones for judicial progress, Dr. Bawumia extolled the positive strides made possible by e-systems in streamlining justice administration. He called upon all Ghanaians to rally behind the Chief Justice’s vision and support the ongoing transformation.
Looking ahead, the government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to bolstering the Judicial Service. Plans are underway to invest in essential court infrastructure, provide residential accommodations for judges and magistrates, and enhance the overall human resources capacity to enhance justice delivery.
Dr. Bawumia underscored the critical importance of these investments, asserting their indispensable role in steering Ghana towards greater prosperity and justice for all.
