Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a political activist, is opposed to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) spearheading investigations into reports of unlawful mining.
According to him, the organization is fragmented and too dependent on the government to produce complete and authentic results on the threat.
“I don’t believe the CID will conduct a thorough investigation.” “I think they’re compromised and too beholden to the government,” he remarked on Monday’s JoyNews AM Show.
According to the US-based medical expert, the situation necessitates a Parliamentary hearing to discuss how to make small-scale mining lawful while also guaranteeing that it is environmentally friendly and useful to the country.
Dr. Kennedy bemoaned the growing problem of state capture, in which wealthy political actors who help candidates succeed attempt to reap public benefits.
“We are watching this fourth republic and the country unravel,” he remarked.
As a result, he has urged all Ghanaians not to remain silent while things spiral out of control.
His remarks come after several high government officials were implicated in illicit mining, according to a leaked study by former Environment Minister Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng.
He has now faced criticism since some of those accused have refuted the charges, with many claiming that the facts were misrepresented.
