“Police Officer Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault on Teen Under Police Protection in Kenya”

In a shocking turn of events at the Rangwe police station in Homa Bay County, Kenya, a police officer finds himself in custody for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl who was placed under police protection while awaiting her testimony against her father, accused of the same crime.

The distressing incident unfolded on Sunday, with the victim reporting the assault that occurred in the dark confines of the Rangwe police station. The suspect is accused of breaking into the cell where the young girl was being kept, taking advantage of a moment when there was no electricity.

The girl, under police protection due to her imminent court testimony against her father, had been placed in a female jail overnight since there was no dedicated protection section at the Rangwe police station. This move aimed to prevent any compromise in her case.

Following the incident, the victim was immediately taken to Rangwe Hospital for a medical examination. Homa Bay police commander, Samson Kinne, stated that the outfit is awaiting the medical report to determine the appropriate course of action.

“The suspect is in our custody for further interrogation. The girl was being protected to avoid any compromise as she was supposed to testify in court,” remarked Kinne.

Joseph Otieno, Homa Bay Children’s officer, revealed that a female officer working with the suspect visited the cell around 10 p.m., unaware of the defilement episode at the time. The victim informed her that she would share information the following morning, but the officer left before being given the details.

The incident has been officially booked for investigation, and a docket has been forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for further guidance. The suspect is expected to be arraigned as the authorities strive to address this distressing case of alleged misconduct within the police force.
