Dr. Gyamfi highlighted the numerous cases requiring the Council’s attention and underscored the need for additional financial support to manage election-related activities properly. He specified that approximately $1 million is needed to enhance the Council’s capacity to address potential challenges associated with the elections.

“For election-related activities, we need $1 million in dollar terms,” Dr. Gyamfi stated. “Some donors have come in trying to help.”

The Crucial Role of the National Peace Council

The National Peace Council is pivotal in promoting peace and stability, particularly during elections. The Council facilitates discussions among political parties and stakeholders to address conflicts and prevent electoral violence. It also educates the public on the importance of peaceful elections, encouraging non-violent participation.

Furthermore, the Council intervenes in disputes that arise before, during, or after elections to maintain peace and order. These efforts are crucial in ensuring that elections in Ghana are conducted peacefully and democratically.

As the 2024 elections approach, the National Peace Council’s request for additional funding highlights the importance of its role in safeguarding Ghana’s democratic process.
