Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), confidently stated that the NDC would win if national elections were held today. Speaking to JoyNews on Thursday, May 23, Nketia emphasized the party’s focus on ensuring a transparent and disruption-free electoral process.
“Our message has been accepted. The two parties have been tried. Opinion polls indicate a one-touch victory for NDC,” Nketia remarked. Quoting a Russian saying, he added, “Those who vote decide nothing, but those who count the vote decide everything.”
Nketia highlighted the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the voting process and securing the elections. “We are focusing on those who will be counting the votes and those who will be providing security to ensure the elections proceed without interruptions,” he stated.
Citing multiple credible polls, both local and international, Nketia asserted that the NDC is on track for a decisive win. “That is the source of our confidence. We are winning 52% as of this month. If free and fair elections are conducted, we should win 52%, and that is a one-touch win,” he declared.
Nketia also called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to address concerns regarding missing Biometric Verification Readers (BVRs). “The EC has the capacity to respond to these demands without creating problems. Their refusal to be transparent is a source of worry and will continue to be so. If they have nothing to hide, opening up would have resolved this matter long ago,” he concluded.
He urged the EC to be transparent and responsive to these concerns to resolve outstanding disagreements and restore confidence in the electoral process.
