Manager Clarifies: Fella Makafui Was Invited by Police, Not Arrested

Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Fella Makafui was summoned by police on Tuesday, May 22, as part of an investigation into allegations of illegal drug sales and promotions.

Contrary to initial reports suggesting her arrest, Makafui’s manager, Richmond Amofa Sarpong, clarified to Joy Entertainment that she was invited for questioning and not detained.

Sarpong refuted claims that Makafui was involved in selling or promoting unapproved products. He emphasized that most of the products in question had received necessary approvals, while others were still undergoing the endorsement process.

Earlier reports suggested that Makafui had been arrested in a joint operation by investigative documentary filmmaking firm ISPYGH 247 and the Pharmacy Council Ghana. The reports indicated that she was detained on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, for allegedly engaging in unlawful activities related to the sale of unregistered drugs. Her alleged crimes also included false advertising and disseminating unapproved adverts by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

According to lead investigator Akwasi Koranteng, after a six-month surveillance operation monitoring Makafui’s social media posts on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, undercover journalists from ISPYGH 247 gathered evidence of her illegal activities. Following her supposed arrest, 16 different products, including Fertility Tea (Fibroid and Womb Tea), Butt and Hips Enlargement Syrup, and Breast Firming and Enlargement Cream, were confiscated from her shop in Mempeasem.

Other confiscated items included Vagina Detox Pearls, Male Sexual Vitality Tea, Spice Herbal Infection Mixture, Yoni Wash Gel, Orgasmic Gel, Weight Gain Syrup, Spice Coded Powder, Tiger Herbal Mixture, and Sweet Drip Honey.

In a statement, the investigators said Makafui admitted that most of the drugs she sold were not registered with the FDA.

These developments follow recent comments by Medikal, Makafui’s estranged husband, suggesting that she had undergone plastic surgery to enhance her body. Medikal claimed that Makafui misled the public by attributing her physical changes to the drugs she was selling.

In light of these accusations, Sarpong’s clarification aims to set the record straight, emphasizing that Makafui was not arrested but merely invited for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
