Ayisha Modi is upset to have seen that Second Lady Samira Bawumia reportedly owns designer bags that may cost over $100,000 in total.
Photos circulating on social media show Samira Bawumia carrying designer bags from renowned brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior, Hermes, Valentino Garavani, Louis Vuitton, Anel, and Chanel. These images capture the Second Lady with these bags on various occasions. A social media user took a screenshot of the bags and posted their respective prices. The Hermes bag, for instance, is reported to have a value of at least GH131,000 (£9000).
In response to the situation, Ayisha Modi has taken a stand and criticized Samira Bawumia for allegedly overlooking the needs of the people and spending money on luxurious bags. Ayisha Modi contends that the combined cost of the designer bags owned by the Second Lady could have been used to provide hospitals with much-needed beds.
According to GhanaWeb, Ayisha Modi expressed her viewpoint, stating, “Dr. Bawumia’s wife [Samira] would carry a bag worth $120,000. Do you realize how many hospital beds that money could buy? Some hospitals are lacking beds, resulting in people giving birth outside the facilities. As Ghanaians, we need to think beyond party lines and focus on the development our nation requires.”
She further elaborated, “Many individuals are jobless, yet one person can spend over $100,000 on a handbag. If this is considered good leadership, then it is the residents who are suffering due to a lack of wisdom. What has she done for the women in Ghana?”
Ayisha Modi’s remarks highlight her concerns about the allocation of resources and the need for leadership that prioritizes addressing the pressing challenges faced by the country, particularly in areas such as healthcare and employment.
