Ghana will be among the seeded teams for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw, which is set to take place on Thursday afternoon in Johannesburg. The draw will determine the qualifying groups for the tournament, featuring 48 teams.
The Black Stars, along with other top-ranked African teams, will be in Pot 1, ensuring they avoid some of the continent’s heavyweights during the group stage. Joining Ghana in Pot 1 are hosts Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Mali, Tunisia, Algeria, Cameroon, South Africa, and DR Congo.

Pot 2 will include teams such as Burkina Faso, Gabon, Angola, and Zambia, while
Pot 3 will feature Togo, Libya, Tanzania, Kenya, and Mauritania.
In a statement, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) explained that the 48 teams would be drawn into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the tournament. “The highest-ranked nations as per the latest FIFA Rankings issued on 20 June 2024 will occupy Pot 1, with the same procedure to be followed for Pots 2, 3, and 4 to make up the 48 nations,” CAF said.
“The concluded draw of the qualifiers will be made up of 12 Groups of 4 teams (Group A to L), where the first and runners-up in the eleven (11) groups that do not involve tournament hosts Morocco, will gain qualification to the competition.”
