Social media is abuzz with debates about who deserves the coveted Artist of the Year award at the upcoming 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs). While many champion award-winning dancehall singer Stonebwoy, citing his album ‘5th Dimension’ and collaborations with Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo, others argue that hitmaker King Promise is more deserving due to the immense success of his song ‘Terminator.’
Amidst this debate, socialite Efia Odo has voiced strong support for King Promise, declaring that he should win the Artist of the Year award. She believes ‘Terminator’ is the biggest song in Africa this year and that King Promise’s hard work merits recognition.
“If King Promise doesn’t win Artist of the Year then the award show is fuxkn rigged. He’s put in too much work to go unnoticed,” Efia Odo asserted on social media. “Nothing against Stonebwoy, no disrespect to him, but he hasn’t achieved what Promise has this year. He had the number 1 song in Africa with ‘Terminator!!!’”
Efia Odo emphasized that for the awards to maintain credibility, they must reflect King Promise’s significant impact and success this year.
The TGMA awards night is scheduled for June 1, 2024, at the AICC. King Promise has earned three nominations this year: Artiste of the Year, International Collaboration of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.
King Promise has demonstrated his global superstar status with a recent successful tour in Asia, selling out shows in Jakarta, Bali, and Singapore. Notably, he became the first African artist to sell out the Tipsy Unicorn Beach Club in Singapore.
In the past year, King Promise has reached new heights with ‘Terminator,’ a chart-topping hit that captivated audiences in Ghana and beyond. The song’s infectious melody and compelling lyrics resonated with listeners, significantly boosting King Promise’s global appeal and expanding his fanbase.
As the TGMA awards approach, the anticipation builds, and fans eagerly await to see if King Promise’s efforts will be recognized with the prestigious Artist of the Year award.
