Democracy Under Threat: No ZAK, No Madina Seat For NDC

A group of concerned members of the NDC in Madina, who are committed to justice and democratic principles for the party’s victory in the region, have expressed their strong disapproval and reservations about the undemocratic behavior of certain constituency executives. These executives have been allegedly protecting the selfish interests of the incumbent MP by mistreating Prince Moses Zakaria and other dedicated party members.

During a press conference held in Accra yesterday, Comrade Yidana, the Convener of the group, along with other outraged members, addressed the issue. They found it ironic that the executives, who they believe are incompetent and selfish, would question Prince Zakaria’s qualifications to be a party member, especially given that he was already an executive. The group was also surprised that the Constituency Secretary, who was unable to vote or run for office in Madina in 2014, is now questioning the qualifications of others.

The Madina Constituency executives according to Comrade Yidana, Convener, have openly disregarded the explicit dictates of the party’s constitution, guidelines and the advice of even the National Chairman and the very well pronounce directives of the national executives for all party office holders to refrain from openly supporting any candidate in the upcoming primaries.

Unfortunately, in Madina, certain executives have not only disregarded directives and advice, but have also gone as far as to openly support, campaign for, and threaten branch executives and Prince Moses Zakaria since he announced his intention to participate in the parliamentary primaries of our party in Madina. These threats have included direct insults in public, physical and phone-based assault threats, and, in some cases, death threats from the constituency chairman.

Furthermore, the executives have issued fabricated suspensions, causing regional executives to intervene and direct the Constituency Executives to take appropriate action, which they have yet to do. The party’s platforms have also faced severe criticism, and the executives have even taken their campaign international by resorting to newspapers and TV shows to discredit and tarnish Prince Moses Zakaria’s hard-earned good reputation.

According to him, the Executives’ schemes are aimed at creating grounds to disqualify Prince Moses during the vetting process, allowing Sosu to run unopposed. He noted that the Chairman and Secretary, who are biological brothers, have had this agenda all along.

Comrade Yidana averred that; the Constituency Executives have arrogantly refused to the directives of regional executives to withdraw the unconstitutional suspension of Prince Zak.

Yidana demanded that the executives produce evidence of Prince Moses Zakaria’s membership with the defunct UFP party, assuming that he was or is a member of that party. He further stated that they need to clarify which section of the national and party constitution prohibits individuals from changing their political party affiliation, as many members of the NDC have previously been members of other political parties.

Yidana also accused the current chairman of being a former card-carrying member of the NPP, which he publicly displayed after their loss in the 2016 election. Thus, he believes that the real infiltrators within the constituency are the executives who are acting out of self-interest.

“NDC in Madina is not a family property and it is not for friends for benefits associations. The agenda (make me MP and I will ensure you become MCE) is dead on arrival”.

He said, winning the primaries is not a do or die affair for them and any candidate but the victory of the NDC for presidential and parliamentary for 2024 and beyond.
